My brother’s most recent acquisition, a 1971 #Volvo 140GT.
I’m so jealous. I want a GT. and a navy and white combo like this one. :(
To start things off I created an all time favorite of mine, the Saab 900. Even as a younger child I always thought this car was unique. I even compared it to the likes of all childhood exotic dream cars. Now that I am older and am on the lookout to purchase a car at some point, Saabs are definitely on the list. Now I don’t know to much about the reliability and so forth but that’s just some research waiting to be done. What I admire about this car was always the head and tail lights. Pardon my simple vectorization of them here. I feel a lot of times head and tail lights can make or break the look of a car. But with the older Saabs I feel they really suit them well. Another detail I enjoy with Saabs, particularly the 900’s is the convertible and non convertible option. Either way they always had such a unique looking spoiler on them. It was high up close to the rear window and that isn’t something you see these days on any car. I think it makes it look super sporty but overall the car keeps a nice simple look even with it’s unique angles and that’s what I like most about them. I feel vintage Saabs are definitely a head turner when you see one on the street.
I’ve recently became more intrigued by older Porsche’s. Particularly the 70’s era production. I guess it has to do with the interest I gained in Datsun 240 and 280z’s. They definitely have a bit of resemblance but what draws me in so much to Porsche’s well… the fact that it is a porsche. What I like about this one here is the minimal lines it has. I’m really into the bumpers it has over it’s solid body, just like an old VW bug. I find these cooler each time I see one, especially in person. I’m always happy to see old adverts of Porsches as well. Check out a nice collection of brochures from them here.
What can I say, I’m just a big fan of Swedish cars… especially old ones. What always struck me with Volvo was how boxy and straight they were. I feel I see more old ones around than new ones, and that’s not a bad thing. I’ve been tossing around the idea of getting a station wagon. I’d like to have the extra room but be low to the ground and have more of a car handling then driving an suv. I know if this choice comes through I don’t see myself picking up and 80’s or even 90’s wagon as much as I’d love too, but possibly more of an early 2000’s. They still strike me even in the later years. I think it has to do with them not being a car you see everyday. If you like Volvo’s stay tuned as i’ll be making another one shortly.
This is probably my favorite car from Volvo, or at least from what I’ve seen so far. Again it has to do with the boxiness of the car and that really neat looking back window. One thing I’ve always found interesting with older cars is that often times they had head light wipers. Has anyone ever experienced them in action? To me they wouldn’t seem like they would do much. Correct me if i’m wrong. I was looking to do a variant on one o these. A few mods here and there and I think a rally looking one would be cool.
It took me a while researching to find out what model car this was. It was modeled after this here. I took that photo a while back when I was doing my neighbor hood car spotting for fun. I saw it from quite a ways as well. I’d never seen anything like it. After doing my research I’ve found out that this is a Volvo people are after. They tune, mod, race them, etc. Of course I prefer any car stock. What’s neat about this thing is that it is a small car compared to todays standards yet it still looked like it had plenty of room in the front and back. Very big windows which I like as well. The one in the photo I took was a bit beat up as you can see but I didn’t mind that. Personally I love to see a few blemishes here and there on cars, Especially on exotics. It goes to show that these vehicles get out and get driven as well as gives them character. Don’t get me wrong. I do like pristine straight of the show room condition as well. But I’d be after something like that when I was more after a car to look at and appreciate the outer beauty, not necessarily drive it all over.
Thanks for the shout out on requesting more Volvo’s. I’ll still be making more later on. Feel free to contact me if you guys want to see any other particular cars or brands. I think you’ve all seen what kind of cars I like now and can make some reasonable requests. Thanks for checking everything out.
My parents are thinking of buying me this car and selling my Subaru. It’s a really well taken care of 85 Volvo, but my Subaru is my baby. I’m kinda torn.
I want it!
